It's a shame to say it but I think that at some point most writers have done it or at least considered doing it: putting a ship into a story just to attract readership.

The problem with this is that it means that the pairing is miss-represented or over-used; also these pairings don't nessecarily add anything to the story.

Whilst, I would not call myself 'a fan of unusual pairings', I think that the fact that I do seem to fan more unusual pairing than common ones, does make me feel particually annoided at this as when the central pairing has no character and there is not much of it around the story feels disappointing to the level of insulting.

However, I have myself have done with (but as background pairings mind you) several common shippings so I'm now wondering whether or not to edit them out or not. I'm leaning towards editing due to the fact that I don't actually support all the pairings that I've shoved in.

There is annother problem with pairings for the sake of pairings which effects any pairing used and that's that these types of fics cause the pairing to become stale. Here's a little list of ships that I've tought of from the top of my head that suffer due to this:

Takari, Pokeshipping, Daiken, Ikarishipping, Sorato, ect.

The problem with seeing this as a problem or editing out these variety of pairings is that I fear that it may stop me from doing multipairing fics over all. Ever since, I realised that all my favourite pokemon pairings slot together nicely, that would be something I'd like to do. (Novelshipping, Heattagshipping and Rocketshipping).
